Larceny Barrel Proof C924 Review
The final batch of the 2024 Larceny Barrel Proof series has arrived in my area and batch C924 sports a new label design which displays the classic Fitzgerald skeleton key directly on the label rather than through the key hole like the previous design. Larceny is a wheated bourbon crafted with Old Fitzgerald distillate by Heaven Hill distillery and has a mash bill of 68% Corn, 20% Wheat, 12% Malted Barley. If you have a bottle, grab a pour while I get to work on this Larceny Barrel Proof C924 review!

Larceny Barrel Proof C924 Review
My tasting reviews are unique in that I include the notes of several well-known whiskey critics. The hope is that this format will help me and others to explore and expand their tasting experience. After you have taken your own tasting notes, read the reviews and see if there is a flavor note that others discerned that now you can detect as well.
For this tasting: Opened Bottle (about 1 week), Glencairn Glass, Neat, Room Temp, Breathe: 5 minutes.
Legs
After swirling the glass, beads began to form on the crown at about 10 seconds. The first legs began to fall at about 19 seconds. They then bled together, forming larger dips for the spaced out tears to fall. The first legs reached the bowl at 60+ seconds.
Nose
Old or dusty oak, dark caramel, dark fruit, fig, dark vanilla note.
Other Reviewer’s Perceptions
Breaking Bourbon: Cocoa powder | Cinnamon stick | Barrel Char | Toasted walnut | Touch of smoke
Whiskey Consensus: Bubble gum, pumpkin pie, chocolate, cinnamon, hot chocolate, brown sugar, and oak.
Bourbon Guy: Lots of vanilla and caramel with oak underneath.
Palate
Semi-dry with dark savory tones, lots of oak, barrel char, caramel, coca cola, chocolate, baking spice, brown sugar, leather, perhaps a hint of blackberry, black pepper, molasses.
Other Reviewer’s Perceptions
Breaking Bourbon: Chocolate | Roasted coffee beans | Oak | Caramel | Light clove
Whiskey Consensus: Peaches, chocolate, coffee, fruit cocktail fruit syrup, baking spice, and oak.
Bourbon Guy: Very warm with notes of cinnamon, red fruit, vanilla, caramel, and oak.
Finish
Medium length finish with oak, dark chocolate, brown sugar, molasses, cloves and a little smokiness.
Other Reviewer’s Perceptions
Breaking Bourbon: Cinnamon | Mexican chocolate | Nutmeg | Rye spice | Black pepper | Slight smoke
Whiskey Consensus: Pancake syrup, cinnamon, white pepper, spice, baking spice, chocolate, campfire, and oak.
Bourbon Guy: Warm and of medium length with notes of oak, caramel, and cinnamon.
Mouthfeel
The mouthfeel was silken and pleasant, but not creamy or rich.
Mouthfeel Rating Guide: Thin = Watery | Silken = smooth & slippery, but not mouth coating | Creamy = coats the tongue like heavy cream does. | Rich or Unctuous = coats the entire palate like quality olive oil
The Burn
4 out of 5. This means that the burn from the alcohol is a bit lower (5% to 9%) than what I would expect it to be. I would guess this to be around 115 proof, not 125.1 proof.
Tasting Summary
Have you ever had a bourbon/whiskey that you keep coming back to trying to decide if like it or you don’t? Maybe that’s too simple. We know when we hate or dislike a pour. How about, a bourbon that you would 100% recommend to a friend or purchase a back-up/bunker bottle of?
That is Larceny C924 for me. I like it…sort of. I’ve drank 4/5 of the bottle over 3 weeks trying to rate it (highly unusual!). I kind of like it, I certainly don’t dislike it…but it’s not my favorite. I prefer a sweetish profile and this is more dry, but it does have the oak and dry notes that I love. I’m satisfied and not unhappy that I purchased it once…but for my palate, I will not buy a back up.
This is like a blind date where you want one more whiskey to decide if it’s a thumbs up or a thumbs down… Will I regret it…probably not. Would I do it again…probably not.
Best Larceny of 2024?
What is the best Larceny Barrel Proof of 2024? Well, to begin with, none of them blew my skirt up. They were all good, average, worth the msrp price, but not worth bunkering in my opinion. My ranking would be B524, C924, A124, with all of them having a rating of 7.2 – 7.5. These are compared against my favorite Larceny’s of B523, B522, and A121, all with a rating of 8.3.
My Rating
The higher the score the better the whiskey is in my opinion. For reference, my best rated bottle so far is the George T. Stagg 2022 (138.7p) with a score of 9.7.
Score Type | Score | Examples |
Likability Score | 7.4 | 1.0 – 10.0 |
